2020 wasn’t fun in Leicester due to the prolonged lockdown in the City Centre but one good thing to come out of Lockdown was Super Game Shack. Owner Richard Tewkesbury had been trading online and always dreamed of opening a physical store. He eventually took the plunge and rented a unit on the ground floor of the Silver Arcade. He and his dad fitted out the unit within weeks and finally opened to the public. The result was a collector’s paradise selling a mixture of retro and modern games for Atari 2600 to PS4, merchandise, various niche collectables and is also home to a full- size Tardis (which is worth a visit alone!). He has gone from strength to strength with people travelling from all over the country to visit his store. He won ‘best independent retailer in Leicester in 2024’ which he is extremely proud of and rightly deserves.
In 2025 he expanded to the 2nd floor in the arcade with the opening of Level 2. Find out more in the article below
Richard Tewkesbury (owner of Super Game Shack, ground floor Silver Arcade) wanted to bring something different to Leicester and the arcade. He wanted to create a fun environment where people can hang out and have fun whilst being surrounded by their favourite interests.
With the support of the Arcade owners, a plan was devised to provide a new gaming arcade with retro games and merchandise. Richard’s creativity, vision and knowledge of the gaming industry resulted in Level 2. The arcade machines are powered by coins which can be purchased from the café area on the 2nd floor. It also has a variety of toys, clothing and comic books as well as video games.
Snack foods and drinks are available from the café where you can just sit, relax and soak up the atmosphere.
Level 2 is perfectly summed up by a review from ‘Timeextension.com’ as “Silver Arcade is a gem which has too long been underappreciated; Tewkesbury and his team are doing huge things to this amazing venue, and we hope that his commitment to the building will encourage other retailers to fill out the remaining units. If you’re ever in the area, you should pay a visit”
Level 2 is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and certain days during the holidays. Please see here for further details.
